How to find beautiful wallpapers

Our smartphones are among the first things we see in the morning, researchers found, and most of us are spending more than three hours a day looking at them. Coincidentally, the first thing we see on our smartphone is the wallpaper, so logic says that the picture we set up as a background for that magical world of apps that help us get through the day, may be among the most important images in our lives. But how to find beautiful wallpapers? Read on:

The wallpaper may very well set the tone for the whole day ahead, and we don’t even realize it. Every phone comes with a default set of wallpapers, just to let you know of the functionality and to offer you a basic introduction to its personalization capabilities. However, even if you don’t pay any attention to them, most often those pictures don’t match your personality and may influence, in a good or bad way, your overall behavior after interacting with your smartphone.

Here are a few tips to keep in mind when choosing your lock screen picture:

1. Subject — what do you choose as the subject of your phone background says more than you know about you.

Many people tend to select personal pictures for this and, while it’s only natural that you would appreciate the special people or moments of your life, it can also be seen as narcissistic by everyone around you. Like it or not, how you present yourself in the world is the way the world will look at you. And even if, ironically, a sign of being self-centered is actually thinking of these things, it simply works!

So make sure to choose a neutral subject, joyful or inspiring, or, why not, a combination of the two.

2. Format — needless to say, the vertical format is the most appropriate for a phone screen.

However, there are plenty of beautiful photos out there in horizontal format, that can easily be cropped to perfectly fit the screen of your phone. You have to think in perspective. Try visualising the crop in your mind before deciding if the photo suits your lock screen and don’t dismiss it just because it’s in landscape format.

For instance, this photo is horizontal, but it may very well be a good vertical image, with a fast crop.:

3. Dominant colors — we all have our favorite colors, but do you know what each color symbolizes?

If you’re about business, then blue is the color to choose. It represents confidence, success, and loyalty. You sure want to have these in your professional life. Get yourself a nice, classic business concept and you’re good to go. But if your business is creativity, then you may want to think of a more inspiring image.

Want to express your happiness and positivity? Then yellow is for you! Considering that Illuminating Yellow is also Pantone’s color of the year, it could really make an impact:

4. Accessibility — you don’t need to break the bank for your phone wallpapers.

But just grabbing any photo you find on google is not an option either. Truth be told, if the image you choose will just be used on your mobile home screen, you probably won’t have any copyright problems. Yet, using something someone has worked for and not rewarding them in any way is still inappropriate, no matter who else knows about it. And it’s also a matter of supporting the creative community since you obviously appreciate their work enough to use it on the device you’re using most often in your life. So, using stock photos may be a good option for your phone’s wallpapers.

You get a huge selection of images immediately available and you can use them with peace of mind that your support will help their authors create even more.

Here is a selection of possible candidates for you, a large collection of images that could easily be used as phone wallpapers.
